DIVE SITES

Namena Marine Reserve - the Mecca of Fiji Diving

The Namena MPA encompasses the entire reef around Namena Island, known as the Namena Barrier Reef, and is part of a larger network of marine protected areas set aside by the Kubulau District to preserve their reefs for future generations. This small island 20 miles to the south of Savusavu is surrounded by mile after mile of unexplored reefs. Seemingly bottomless drop-offs, multi-colored soft corals and perfect coral gardens support an abundance of marine life. This unique setting is the place to see the big fish cruising in from the depth of the Koro Sea. Barracuda, Spanish mackerel, tuna, mantas and large sharks are regularly seen. The reefs are teaming with life.

There is a annual fee for those visiting the park, underwater tags are issued at
F$ 3
0 per diver. Also see www.namena.org

North Save-a-Track
A wide channel with bommies covered in soft corals. The dive starts on the seaward side of the channel, were a wall drops into the blue. A white-sand seafloor slopes gently down to the top of the wall at 30m. Schooling hammerheads, barracuda, jacks and tuna, huge groupers, grey reef sharks and giant rays are regularly seen.

Chimneys

Is a series of soft coral bommies home to zillions of reef fish. Chimneys is a prime example of the kind of soft coral diving for which Fiji is famous. Multicolored soft coral and nearly every kind of reef fish known. Macro photographers love these bommies because of the profusion of little creatures living among the hard corals, soft corals, and fans. On the sandy bottom between the bommies you'll find fields of garden eels and barracudas hanging out in midwater.

Directly across from North Save-a-tack Passage are some spectacular seamounts on the edge of the dropp-off on the south Pass of the Passage.
Namena has 30+ dive spots above we have just named a few of them.

Naisonisoni Passage

A narrow passage that cuts through the barrier reef that's where all the action is. This passage is patrolled by big grey reef sharks, most of the time strong current along with schools of jacks and barracuda.

We also dive some of the dive sites that lie on the northern barrier reef of Vatu-i-ra Channel also known as the Bligh Waters. Including a large number of identified dive sites and newer areas we're still exploring.
